Yeah.  She seemed like a good person, and they all seemed to like her a lot.

This is pretty great. Cliff Richard singing at Cilla's funeral.

Yeah.  She seemed like a good person, and they all seemed to like her a lot.

Actually, the reality strongly suggests otherwise. There are a few articles on her being the most vile two-faced celebrity ever in showbiz, but I found this thread fascinating as it is full of people that have had personal encounters with her and her husband (Bobby was apparently a very nice man - can't say the same for 'er indoors though!)..

I checked and there were only 6 pages of Nickleback haters. I better get typing!  ;D ;)

Nah it's just a general forum for people to talk about anything.. the common thread in the Cilla Black discussion is that she was very 'up herself', frowned down upon anyone in a lower class such as a shop assistant or hotel worker etc (despite being born in the poorest part of Liverpool herself), put on the niceness for the tv cameras/public but once she was away from it she was just awful to everyone. She had a well-known knack for reducing all sorts of people to tears literally. My mother actually remembers a Cilla Black story from the early 1970s when she toured New Zealand and the support band 'The Rumour' had a few local hits here and they were very excited to meet her and they gave her a copy of their record. That record was later found in the hotel room rubbish bin!

She also made a point of accentuating her fidelity, going to great pains to say how Bobby is the only man she's ever been with. This couldn't be any further from the truth - she would drop her knickers for anything that moved! And she cheated on him. And as a 'coat-hook girl' at The Cavern, she's known as one of the few people to have bedded all 4 Beatles! (I'm assuming that one is true, haha!)

More disturbingly, she was also friends with Jimmy Savile. Sure there's a lot of hearsay and tittle-tattle stories out there, but they say where there's smoke there's fire. No doubt she had a fine voice for those classic 60s songs, but we shouldn't be fooled by her beaming "good luck, chook" personality. It was all a front. Loads of people would say that she would switch accents very rapidly away from the cameras, that she actually had a very posh upper class accent when not in front of the camera.

Again, I respect her as a musical artist and as an entertainer, but like John, we should not pretend that they didn't have a dark side either. Oddly enough it was John that joked with Cilla - maybe their caustic personalities blended well. After 'Step Inside Love', I don't think Paul had anything to do with her after that. And it seemed the rest of The Beatles stayed away too. Though both Paul and Ringo were nice in their obituaries towards her. I guess they were doing what they were expected do do.

This does sound like what happens to a lot of entertainers who are told they are "wonderful" from a young age. You start believing your own press releases. Still...that was a lot of vitriol on that site. I'm glad most of it was before her death at least. Obviously I don't know anything about her. It does make you wonder about meeting your hero's, though.
