Costello did a great job of this too, but this is the original.
Elvis on Letterman

Great. Cool production.
(Elvis has an auto bio out btw. 700+ pages. It will be my Christmas present to me.)

Blast from the Past

Nice!!
-
I submitted that to our band a while back, and we played it at many gigs. Great great song. The guy from Electric Avenue in the old MTV days wrote it I think,
-
Sia. Fun song. ;D

Ahh yes, Sia when she was brilliant and before she got gobbled up into the industry celeb machine. I remember when she played this song on an Australian show I used to watch called 'Rove Live' and she and the band had the same wacky luminous outfits on. That performance I think is on YouTube as well. Seeing her on Rove got me into buying her album 'Some People Have Real Problems' and later on, 'We Are Born'. She's kinda dropped the ball since then, romping around with little kiddies with no clothes on, but back then she was awesome.

One of my favourites from back in the day, Sia - 'The Girl You Lost To Cocaine' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAgP1mxOFB8
-
Oh yeah, that's great. So much good stuff(from lots of people) on the KCRW website.
-
Yes! This is one of my recent favourites - Ryan Adams - 'Am I Safe' (Live at KCRW) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cx_kmKBl1KY
-better than the studio version I must say.
-
This came up with that one Kyle. Great cover. :)

-
And he also does a great cover of BRYAN A's 'Run To You.. not keen on his latest Taylor Swift covers though.
-
Yeah, he must have changed his tune with Bryan Adams since the early days. There is a pretty good story about him playing a gig in Toronto and somebody yelled play Cut's Like a Knife and he walked off the stage and didn't come back. I guess he's figured out life's too short. :)
-
Early Frank. It's interesting(to me anyway) how he can hold a note as it trails off. It doesn't seem to lose any steam until he wants it to.

Not sure why I like this. But I do. :)

Merv showed me this a while back. Crazy amount of talent in the room.

I saw this young woman on Colbert a while back playing a harp and singing. Quirky stuff which is something I like.

Marshall Crenshaw and a cask of thousands.

-
He still sounds great...
-
I've watched a bunch of these wine cellar series things and found almost everyone to be a bit pitchy. Somebody replied in the 10 Thousand Maniacs gig that the place is awfully cold and damp. Not great for a singer I would guess. Still...pretty cool to see. :)

Let The Mystery Be - Iris DeMent
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlaoR5m4L80
-
I enjoyed listening to the wide variety of music posted above. Recently I've been buying up a lot of Sinatra albums from the 50's and 60's. I've heard of April Wine but have never explored their catalog.
I mostly know Iris DeMent from the Transatlantic Sessions, but your video make me think of this video I came across by an 'Americana' singer named Emmy Nash (whose vocals reminded me a bit of Iris).

Oh wow..thanks...loved that. :)
-
Even if you don't listen to the whole song, at least, skip to the end and admire the whistle. :)

That's was excellent. I'm not really sure what technique he is using to get that whistle sound, but he knows how to control it perfectly. Amazing!
Below is a song by Norwegian singer/songwriter Marit Larsen, who is probably best known in Norway and Germany. I think it was in about 2010 that it became a #1 in Germany for several weeks.
https://youtu.be/Qje3U2eRuQ0 (https://youtu.be/Qje3U2eRuQ0)
There's a lot of geo-blocking that takes place with her label; many of her music videos are blocked. If that video was blocked, here's a live acoustic that might work:

Another video on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/32140593 (https://vimeo.com/32140593)
I had never heard of her until a musician in Europe mentioned her to me a couple years ago. Her parents are both musicians; her father plays cello in the Oslo Philharmonic and her mother teaches piano. She recently announced at her Facebook page that she wants to release her next album in April on her own small label (without geo blocks).
Another song of hers called "Under the Surface": https://youtu.be/9gyv4mb6zYY (https://youtu.be/9gyv4mb6zYY)

Oh man...I gotta move to Norway. ;D

Dude....they sell Yamaha keyboards in Canada, too!
-
Ha! :)
To be fair, there's really no way of knowing if her mother is single. ;) ;D

ABWH- Heart of The Sunrise
Pretty great. Somebody in the comment section says it's been remastered(or at least fixed up). Great performance.

When I was in radio school, we had to take a course in TV production too...just in case, we were too good looking for radio. ::) So I did two things. One was a recreation of the rooftop concert doing Get Back. I was Paul of course. Duh. Anyway, storyboarded the whole thing and we shot it. Our lip sync was great I must say.
The other one was a recreation of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sISWPzEqHLQ
The difference was it was 2 guys in a sports bar. I rewrote the lyrics to reference different sports series and finals. I found a backing track and they guys did their own vocal live. It turned out pretty damn funny, especially when at the end when the camera panned out and one of the guys had on a dress. Totally not PC of course. Good times. Ah yes..I remember...it...well. :)

Don Everly - House of the Rising Sun
Well, I found this to be pretty cool. 8)

I'm trying to recall if I've ever seen another band where the lead singer plays Harp. :P Cool sound.

So a few years back Mervap went to a backyard concert series. I thought it was cool that people who were actually pretty big acts would do this. So, now I find that my neighbour 3 doors down is doing the same thing. This is Dayna Manning. I have 2 of her albums. 20 bucks. Nice! :)

Intriguer is probably my favourite Crowded House album, the album as a whole is lyrically really strong, but this song is exceptional. Nice to see it performed, although I prefer the album version.

This is cool. Barry Gibb joins Coldplay at Glastonbury and they do Stayin' Alive. ;D

Happy is the word for that. Holy sh** that was great.
I am also so glad to see that guy get every moment of respect thats possible.
He wrote so many great songs.
The BGs also took so much flak for writing catchy music when much of rock had become boring trudging bs.

Agreed...totally. Plus, they'd already had a fine career before getting swept into the disco dustbin.
-
before getting swept into the disco dustbin
You mean the disco dustbin that was lined with 1000 dollar bills? ;)
I'm still kind of baffled that bands that are absolutely HUGE for so long can just fall off the face of the earth. The Bee Gee's were really lucky to find a way to be huge twice.
-
Yeah. Good point 2. Great songwriting. Unique voices. They were one of those lucky bands to come back huge werent they?
The Beatles only made it huge once........and its still going! ha
-
The Bee Gee's were really lucky to find a way to be huge twice.
One could argue that they did it three times, as in the late 80's early 90's with the single "One" and the albums that followed. It really does come down to the songs, though, doesn't it?
-
Im so glad you said that. I was going to mention that but didnt think anyone would buy it and I didnt know enough about it.
-
Oh yeah......that period of their career reminds me of the first time I ever heard the band called Live. I had just heard a couple of tunes from the late eighties Bee Gees and then heard Live's "Pain Lies By the Riverside" and I thought, "Wow! Is there not a style the Bee Gees can't master?"

Nice, interesting to see Chris on acoustic, none of his distinctive bass, but it works well good arrangement.
