Well Jeeze louise. :o

"He could therefore legitimately claim to be one of the fifth Beatles" ???
I don't know about legitimately.
Anyway...
I think Brian had seen him drum in some Liverpool show years before he filled in with The Beatles at that session.
Seemed like a good dude. Sorry to hear hear he died.

I used to like The Smithereens, but I came across this clip of them playing an impromptu gig with Andy White at 81 years old on drums - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiajRpcei-U - have to say the band unfortunately do him an injustice in this case.
Being a bit older than the Beatles, it did feel like only a matter of time before this time arrived. I knew he was a well-known session musician but didn't know he played the drums on Tom Jones' 'It's Not Unusual' and Lulu's 'Shout' He seemed to be England's answer to Hal Blaine!

That was pretty neat though. Thanks Kyle :)

Here's "P.S. I Love You" from the Smithereens' album "B-Sides The Beatles", featuring Mr. Andy White reprising his role on the Beatle' original.

So, Kyle, you no longer like The Smithereens? Was it this gig, or something else?

Sorry about that.|"
Yeah to be honest, I hadn't kept up with the Smithereens' music for years and years, since those 'A Girl Like You' days. So the first time I've heard them since those heady days was this gig, it's a bit of a comedown haha ;)

I wonder if Lady Gaga will come play my back porch? ;D

That gig is actually an annual thing Pat Dinizio does. He did a series of "backyard" shows a few years back....one he did was next door to my sister's place and we were invited. I got to chat with him for several minutes and helped him set his gear up. He said that when he was a kid, families in his neighborhood would chat in the backyard over the fence and that almost nobody does that anymore. Those shows, which he did at cost, were intended to help foster that kind of community. He was just the nicest guy!

Heck, you pay for the flight and I'll come play on your back porch!
Yeah...I totally get that isn't any where near the same thing. ;D

I wonder if Lady Gaga will come play my back porch?
Is that a euphemism? I don't know that song....
-
It may be more of those Kiwi slang expressions Merv. Now I'm a bit scared I offered my services. ;D

Wow so you've met these guys? Whoa. Well that clip is much like the way I remember them. Much better! ;D

Actually, I only met Pat, the leader of the group....it was a solo show. LC took a pic, if I can find it.
