Title: The Tragically Hip
Post by: 2 of 3 on August 20, 2016, 08:03:28 am
Probably the biggest Canadian band you've never heard of is The Tragically Hip. They do have a large following in the US and Europe...but nothing like here. I'd say they are to Canada what Springsteen is to the US. They've been around since the early 80's. 14 albums. Fill stadiums. Frontman Gord Downie is a strange dude, but fascinating to watch. He put out a book of poetry years ago. He sold more books than any other person in Canada. Almost all the songs are about Canada. Crazy really.
Earlier this year, he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. The band decided to do a final tour which ends tonight. The final show will be broadcast on Youtube.

Here are a few of my fav Hip songs.

Also, that Bobcaygeon song was way cool.

Ha! I'm the same way. You either love them or don't think twice. I figure a band with 10 good songs is a good band.  :)

Crazy. Viewing figures in for the last show. 11.7 million. There's only 35 million in the country. Crazy  8)
