Here's a new one I found today. David Bowie's latest single:

compared with this:

Hmmmmmm!  :o

Wow, same key too. Though, in Bowie's defence, at least his song changes a bit...the other one repeats over and over. Funny reading the comments though...other people suggesting the slide guitar is ripping off George Harrison.  :)

Well, what about this one.. 'When I Was Your Man' (Bruno Mars)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekzHIouo8Q4

with this - 'Sorry Seems to Be The Hardest Word' (Elton John)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3nScN89Klo

..except of course, the Bruno Mars track only steals the main hook and cannot come up with a killer chorus like Elton did.

I remember hearing "Hotel California" for the first time on the car radio way back when. The thought I had during my first few times listening was that it sounded like "Angie" by the Rolling Stones. With time, that impression has mostly fallen away, but I can still hear a vague similarity of melodies in the verses.

Hotel California is a rip-off of 'We Used To Know' by Jethro Tull, from 1969. Check out especially the guitar solo sections, no doubt Joe Walsh was hugely influenced by this track when it came to finishing off Felder's composition with the dual guitar solos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvLwMrGZiH0

Here's another pair of songs that sound 'too close for comfort':
'Home' by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros

and 'Dirty Paws' by Of Monsters And Men
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrWd0m7pmq8

...total ripoff!  :-\

Very interesting! I didn't know of this! Seems nearly irrefutable that the Jethro Tull track "We Used to Know" must have influenced "Hotel California." Growing up, my older bro had a Jethro Tull record, but not that one.

I read something that the Tull and Eagles toured together and had a mutual respect. Same thing happened with Spirit and Led Zeppelin (the Stairway To Heaven one). Bands that tour together, muse together!

I listen to the college radio station here, and some of the DJs play some really really cool stuff.  There are such great tunes and artists out there.  They ain't on Cool 105, The Station That...Blah Blah Blah.  I agree.  I have tuned to a station like you heard only to hear the same tune just altered a little bit with some nondescript, heavily produced voice singing some nondescript melody.

I don't think it's today's artists.  It's today's radio industry execs.

Oh for sure. I always thought it was odd that small town radio stations were programmed(musically) from L.A.
