Title: Beatles covered
Post by: DazedOblivion on July 13, 2013, 06:20:20 pm
I hope everyone is having a good summer (or winter, depending on where you are). There used to be a Beatles cover tune topic at the old board. I couldn't find one here, but I wanted everybody to continue with sharing Beatles covers.

The Dutch band BLØF recently performed at the Concert at Sea in Brouwersdam-Zeeland on 28 June 2013 and Bertolf Lentink (now with a band called Color Reporters) joined them. One of the tunes they played was "Hey Jude":

Bertolf has a Beatles cover band that occasionally gets together between other projects. They've reformed for some concerts this year. Back in 2007, they were performing the entire Abbey Road album, start-to-finish, live. The website has one of the gigs recorded: http://www.hermajesty.nl/media/audio/ (http://www.hermajesty.nl/media/audio/). I came across this cover of "I Am the Walrus" from last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma-y9kFkl4E (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma-y9kFkl4E).

I really like Bertolf's solo-guitar cover of "Martha My Dear": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtFvQPkao0o (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtFvQPkao0o) (posted before at the old board). I can't remember if I posted this cover of "Here Comes the Sun" which he performs with one of his Color Reporters bandmates, Bas Wilberink: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgQGDmd6X-Q (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgQGDmd6X-Q). It's well-known in Holland that Bertolf is a Beatles junkie, but this leads to a lot of opportunities for him, such as this chance to perform "Penny Lane" with the 'Beatles Symphony' concert in Utrecht a few years back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y85_EVmRQAw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y85_EVmRQAw). Besides being a fantastic songwriter, he's a good guy too; after some email in which he graciously answered musical questions, etc., he sent me a signed copy of his debut album, which was really kind.

Somebody YouTubed pretty much an entire concert by Her Majesty on 20 November 2013:

First half is a performance of Abbey Road live. Second half is called "What if the Beatles had not broken up?" and features the work of the individual Beatles after the breakup:

Her Majesty is just a group of musicians who don't try to impersonate the Beatles but just love to play the music.
