What's an umcommon Beatle question.
« on: August 27, 2014, 09:42:21 pm »

Ok. My last post was mediocre.  (The jumping the shark one)

What is a Beatle (debate) question that we could talk about that isn't one of these?

Beatles or Stones?
Are they overrated?
John or Paul?  (any topic)
What's their best album?
Best......anything?
Who's the 5th Beatle?

I will throw this out there:  What event(s) could have changed the course of the group forever?

I know many have said the ending of compulsory National Service was a huge factor in the group being able to continue uninterrupted. No one had to go off and drive tanks, so they were able to work on changing the world.

Ha!  That's the one I always think of too.  I can't believe that law was changed in time for them to stay as a group.

The other one I think of is the fact that the guy who killed Lennon could have been in a car accident at any point in his life that could have severely injured or killed him.

Another great question to think about is "What would be each member's Rosebud?"
I would think Ringo's is that set of drums that his grandfather got him...or was it his stepdad?  I can't remember.

John's might be his mother's banjo.

Back to the first question: What if Paul McCartney's first girlfriend, Dot Rhone, doesn't get pregnant and subsequently miscarry? What would have been the effect upon the group if TWO of them had been married?

That is great.  I would say that Paul's lyrics on many songs would reflect the fact that he was a father.  Would it have ended his participation in the group?  I'm saying no.

It's funny....in the Mark Lewisohn  book, it sounds as though getting married and having kids was the death knell for a lot of the beat groups. Not so for the Lads..
