Look in my (One) Direction. I'll Be round.
« on: April 02, 2016, 03:14:54 am »

Younger people will often tell me that The Beatles started as a boy band. And theyll think thats cool; they never mean it as a criticism.

I dont know what to think about that.  I guess its true, but I think of boy bands as concocted bands like The New Kids or that Justine Timberlake band that he was in.

I can see The Beatles being called a boy band early on, but they certainly had significant differences than the boy bands that I think of.  Even the early Beatles had these differences than what I think of as boy bands.

The Monkees was a boy band.

I often tell people that they were the FIRST boy band. Davy Jones was recruited because he fit the profile of a young, British guy....just like The Beatles.

I think you can view them from an outward appearance as a boy band. All wearing the same suit, singing she loves you yeah yeah yeah etc. They weren't of course(Hamburg anyone?). But at first glance and not knowing the truth..yeah...bit boy band-ish.  :-*
