I recently watched 'The Buddy Holly Story' 1978 biopic for the first time since I was a small kid, and must recommend it as one of the best biopics ever. Gary Busey gave the performance of his life. And the cool thing about it, is the authenticity he brought to the role - he actually sung and played all those parts live on camera.

Buddy was by far my favourite 1950s rock and roll figure and I think he would've continued to be an innovative and creative artist right up to the present day, had he lived on.

Cool.  8) I'm not sure I ever heard that before(other than Lennon of course) Weird how so many BEST OF compilations don't have all the songs on them. That's not on any of my Buddy recordings. :o

Yeah it was from a 6-CD compilation called 'Not Fade Away' which had EVERY recording Buddy made, starting with 'My Two-Timin' Woman' from 1949, through to every home demo, outtakes, all the hits, AND all his posthumous recordings, like the ones that had synths overdubbed to them around 1968/9. 'Love Is Strange' has a beautiful otherworldly feel to it with the synth part added (of course Macca did a TOP NOTCH cover of 'Love Is Strange' on Wild Life).

You're right, the regular 'greatest hits' compilations don't really do true justice to Buddy's output. One of the really cool 'unreleased' songs that was ahead of its time would be 'Smokey Joe's Cafe' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rakpcDv6DFQ - certainly sounds more like the 1960s than the 1950s - I really feel he would've continued to be at the forefront of innovation with Brian Wilson and The Beatles had he lived on.
