Thanks for your thoughts. We have certainly been having a time. That quake shook my place around definitely the strongest quake I have ever felt and went on for ages. It knocked over my cds, a speaker, books and a few pictures, but no real damage. Gave my daughter a big hug afterwards. Then the next days there were a whole lot of after shocks, which was unsettling, it is nice to be able to trust the earth to stay still. Then we had a major storm cutting off Wellington from the rest of the country, the sleep out at the back of my place got a little flooded.
The damage in Kaikoura further south was huge, they say it was two simultaneous earthquakes, the landscape has been significantly altered. Luckily only two deaths, that is partly because it happened at night. The Statistics New Zealand building in Wellington had a floor collapse that could have killed hundreds, another building looks like it will be demolished and there will be aftershocks for months if not years from this.
