G Martin Book

(1/1)

Greg:
Maximum Volume Vol 1.
Great book.  A really interesting look into the life of George Martin.

I had no idea he was so poor as a kid; they were really poor.  Not destitute but poor poor.

His mom died a week after he got married the first time. She wasnt invited to the wedding but found out about it and went to it.  That was the last time he saw her.

Mervap:
I'll be getting this one soon....I read his previous "All You Need Is Ears" and it was a good read.

Greg:
Again...this book is great.  The things G Martin did before The Beatles we crucial to understanding his role during The Beatles.

Basically, GM got bored really easily, and he was a rebel.  He was somewhat of a deviant from the norm.  The, kind of, dichotomy is that he cultivated this upstanding/posh image early on in life.  Which.......in a further twist......is not really who he was by nature of his birth/social/economic situation in the 20s.

Keri:
I'll have to get this. I currently have a few other books to read first. There are some pretty good portraits of George in Lewisohn's Tune in though.
