Please Please Me isn't the best debut album by a band.  Is it?
I don't think it is.
The greatest band in the world doesn't have the greatest debut album?
If it's not PPM, then what is it?

Murmur?
Specials?
Boston?
Never Mind the Bullocks?
My Aim is True?
I'm just thinking through some good first albums.

Shoot, maybe PPM is the best!
IDK.

PPM may not be the best debut album, but what other band got better and better with each release? No contest.  :D

And since we are talking about the Beatles, how about Definitely, Maybe by Oasis?  ;)

..."but what other band got better and better with each release? No contest."

This is interesting to me, and I respect you if you believe this.

I never thought that it was an upward trajectory of them getting better with each release.  As in the White Album was better than Pepper, and Let It Be was better than the White Album, and Abbey Road...etc.

Debuts......in terms of sheer bang for the buck, it's hard to top Please Please Me.

Some other fave Openers:

Tal Bachman- Tal Bachman
Cyndi Lauper- She's So Unusual
The Cars- The Cars

I like that Cars suggestion.

That was quite good.
