was willing to go along with their alternative ways of doing things.
was very insightful on a few things in their very early days.
had some truly great ideas to add to some of their songs.
let his team give their input to the recording process.


Im not saying he wasnt a genius; maybe he was.  I just dont think he was.

Genius is a word that is often thrown around with little regard for a true meaning.

The definition is this: A person who displays exceptional intellectual ability, creative productivity, universality in genres or originality, typically to a degree that is associated with the achievement of new advances in a domain of knowledge.

Having said that, scientists are still divided about what that means, really. Whether or not George Martin was a genius, he was definitely all the things you said. The word that pops most readily to my mind is 'Empathetic'.

I totally agree with your post Greg. George Martin was the perfect person for the job as Beatle producer, the Beatles were genius and he enabled them to become what they could be, he was damn good, not necessarily a genius but the right man at the right time.

I am currently listening to a podcast called "Producing the Beatles", centered on the relationship between George Martin & the Beatles. Just finished the episode detailing all of GM's work on the production and score of Strawberry Fields" for the cellos & trumpets. Taken alone, the score is amazing....with the two separate edited parts of "Strawberry Fields" it's music history.
