50+ years adrift
« on: April 26, 2019, 08:18:22 pm »

I interact with a lot of younger people of college age.

Why do you think they really like The Beatles? (and lots of groups from 50 years ago)

We didn't listen to , nor like, groups from the 1920s when we were in college.

I can't buy an argument that The Beatles were great, and that's why. (although that doesn't make me right)
There's an appeal there somehow.  Why?

I can't recall where I saw this, but in paraphrase: It was the only time when music MEANT something, STOOD for something. It had value beyond the sticker on the package.

I'm sure there are other reasons (the tunes are great!)....

That is a great thought.

Wow.  I like that view.

If one takes the rock & roll era and looks at it in terms of "cultural significance", the sixties were THE time....spilled over into the seventies a bit, but then the meaning slid away as it became a commercialized entity. There have been exceptions, for sure, but they are small in comparison to the sixties era.
