I just bought Amy Ray's Holler.  I think it should be nominated for a Grammy for Best Folk Album.
Im totally over-the-top biased, but still...great album.

A while back, I stumbled over this band....Hiss Golden Messenger. Seems to have a Dylan/Petty influence. Weird name, but delivered honestly.

Well I dont know what to say.  I wasnt expecting to hear three groups I had never heard/heard of before that I absolutely loved hearing.


Those are great.  Quickly...Hiss Messenger has a great great drum sound btw, Father John tune is great. My favorite group of those three has to be that Mountain Goats group.
Just listened to about 5 songs by them. 


I guess that John Darnielle is like Anton from the Jonestown Massacre.  He basically is the group.  I might order a Mountain Goats album this week.
The problem Im going to have is I'll bet there will a half dozen of their releases that I want.  Well, I guess part of only playing records is that you can't have everything.  Im going to have to choose.

I did actually buy that particular Mountain Goats release.....it's good all the way through. I haven't explored further, though.

btw I think that James Mercer and Danger Mouse made one of the best albums of the last 19 years.  Broken Bells/Broken Bells.

So glad you enjoyed that....I ended up getting a second album by them, "Goths". If I were to compare this one to "Dragons", I'd say it is not as 'gentle'....

The album came with a 45.


Every Wednesday I am at a local brewery handing out record cases of 45s for people to pick out a record for us to play.
