I'm posting this video in honor of Phil Everly...most of you know by now that Paul McCartney wrote this song for the Everlys. I recall reading about that arrangement in Rolling Stone magazine before the album ever came out and thinking it was so cool that Macca was able to "return the favor" to two of The Beatles' biggest influences. I bought the tape (!) on the day of issue and was amazed. As I was dating LC at the time, "On the Wings of a Nightingale" quickly became our song....still is today. Thanks, Phil, for all the great songs and performances!

Interesting how appropriate the video is too, knowing your love of cares and all. If only it was a Festy.  ;D

In the wake of Phil Everly's death, I've been searching for a decent compilation of their greatest hits. Strangely, it's really difficult to source a good one. Most of them only cover a particular period of their career, or they will have something like a 2-disc set with like 23 songs-per-disc, yet still miss out some important hits!!! Only a very few have 'On the Wings of a Nightingale' included. I tell ya, it's been impossible to track down a collection that covers it all.

These are the 2 compilations I've narrowed down to:
http://www.amazon.com/50-Years-Hits-Everly-Brothers/dp/B001G93ZA6/ref=sr_1_44?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1389165959&sr=1-44&keywords=everly+brothers and
http://www.amazon.com/Definitive-Everly-Brothers-Spanning-Retrospective/dp/B000066T2U/ref=sr_1_46?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1389165959&sr=1-46&keywords=everly+brothers

..both are very difficult to get hold of cheaply in New Zealand.

This would be the ultimate greatest hits collection - perfect - all the hits plus 'Nightingale' - but look at the price... $99.99!!!!
http://www.amazon.com/20th-Century-Masters-Millennium-Collection/dp/B0000YEE1M/ref=sr_1_19?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1389165929&sr=1-19&keywords=everly+brothers

I've got a few Everly Brothers songs on various compilations here and there but it really is a nightmare trying to find a definitive greatest hits collection!

Plus I wonder what the sound quality is like from cd-to-cd.. some of the labels putting them out sound a bit dodgy. Rhino is usually pretty good though.
